Welcome to Annie Sackmann Photography

I have had a love for photography for as far back as I can remember and would grab my mother’s camera and shoot whenever I could. When I was 9 years old with the help of my Uncle Wes who worked for Kodak I had my first camera! It was a Kodak Instamatic, you remember, the one that needed flash bulbs! Once I had my very own camera, I could not be stopped from running around getting shots of everyone and everything!

I believe everyone and everything has a story to tell and I look for ways to tell that story when I shoot. Interestingly, for a while I enjoyed telling these stories in front of the camera as I pursued an acting career in New York and Los Angeles. Although I never stopped shooting, it was only in the past few years when my husband gave me an amazing gift, which was my first SLR camera, and I re-discovered my love of photography. But I found something had happened along the way: My experience as an actress had influenced how I shot, helping make me a stronger photographer. I don’t just tell stories -- I am driven to capture the human spirit and I look for organic moments that hold the beauty and emotion in life. I see something that makes me feel an emotion and I’m driven to capture it in that way.

While much has changed in photography in the past few years, the joy of looking through old photos with your friends and family remains the same. One of my favorite photos is of my Mom on her wedding day. She looks absolutely beautiful, frozen in time on one of the happiest days of her life. I feel honored that I am invited into people’s lives to capture these moments of love and beauty in photos they can cherish for the rest of their lives.

After all, photos are memories and memories are the moments that make up our lives.
